Deb Kandelaars was born in South Australia's sunny Riverland and grew up in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Memoirs of a Suburban Girl (Wakefield Press, 2011), based on Deb's experiences as a young woman living with domestic violence, is her first novel.

It won Deb a Longlines residential fellowship at Varuna, The Writers' House in 2009, and was shortlisted for the Adelaide Festival Awards for an Unpublished Manuscript in 2010.

Deb's other published works include the first of the popular Postcards series (Wakefield Press 2001) and Moments in Time: True Life Stories of Australian Men and Women (ABC Books 2004).

Deb studied for a Masters in Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide. She lives in Adelaide with her family.
